Rezoning land involves changing the designated land use category set by local government regulations. The process typically starts with submitting a formal application to the local planning department, outlining the desired zoning change. The application is reviewed for consistency with the area's comprehensive plan and future land use designations. Public hearings are held to gather feedback from the community and local stakeholders. Following this, the planning commission and local governing body (such as a city council or county commission) review the application, often requiring multiple rounds of review and revisions. The governing body then votes to approve or deny the rezoning request based on factors like public interest, environmental impact, and compatibility with surrounding land uses.
